Kaplan Orchid Conservatory

The Arthur & Phyllis Kaplan Orchid Conservatory is home to the largest orchid collection in the Tidewater, Virginia area. The $2.1 million structure houses almost 3,000 square feet of greenhouse space for the orchid collection of late Norfolk physician Arthur Kaplan, a longtime grower of exquisite orchids.

Chemistry Building

The Chemistry building features state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, a tutoring/active learning center, competitive teaching and research laboratories, faculty offices, and the Monarch's Premiere Planetarium/Digital Theater equipped with 3-D model simulation, free-flight navigation through the Universe, and a cutting-edge laser projector. This amazing facility offers an unrivaled chemistry education experience in the Commonwealth.

Lê Planetarium & Digital Theater

Since 1968, the Michael and Kimthanh Lê Digital Theater and Planetarium has not only enhanced formal education classes. The free, public shows enlighten the Hampton Roads community of what's happening in the world of astronomy.

Blackwater Ecological Preserve

Due to its location at the northernmost end of the longleaf pine’s range, Blackwater Ecological Preserve presents a unique opportunity to study a rare ecosystem. It also gives Old Dominion University students the chance to assist with and carry out their own research projects.
